About Bolletje

Bolletje is a well-known manufacturer of rusk, crispbread and other bakery products. The company has a strong logistics operation, with in-house transportation in the Netherlands and part of Germany. To operate more sustainably and efficiently, Bolletje decided to reduce empty miles by transporting freight from third parties. This led to a partnership with Cargors.

Too many empty miles

Bolletje discovered that, on average, their trucks were only 60 to 65 percent full on return trips. That meant unused capacity and unnecessary empty miles. The goal: increase load factors and make transportation more efficient and sustainable.

Rick Beld, logistics team leader at Bolletje, saw an opportunity to better utilize routes while contributing to more sustainable transportation. The challenge was finding a solution that allowed Bolletje to take on third-party freight without adding complexity to the operation.
